Sabine Mauderer and Fundi Tshazibana join the Network for Greening the Financial System as chair and vice-chair<\/em><\/h3>\n

\"Climate<\/a>Sabine Mauderer has taken office as the new chair and Fundi Tshazibana as vice chair of the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS)<\/a>,\u00a0a forum of central banks and supervisors working to improve\u00a0the\u00a0green credentials of the financial sector.<\/p>\n

Mauderer, executive board member of the Deutsche Bundesbank and previous NGFS vice chair, has replaced Ravi Menon after his two-year stint as head.\u00a0She was previously chair of the NGFS\u2019s\u00a0workstream<\/a>\u00a0on scaling up green finance.<\/p>\n

Tshazibana, deputy governor of the South African Reserve Bank (Sarb) and chief executive officer of South Africa\u2019s Prudential Authority, was appointed vice-chair.<\/p>\n

The NGFS\u2019 climate scenarios, now in their fourth iteration,\u00a0are used as a global starting point for analyzing the risks associated with various greenhouse gas transition pathways.<\/p>\n

Mauderer is an outspoken advocate for environmental issues in finance and has used her platforms to urge central banks to address nature-related financial risks and strengthen international efforts to foster price and financial stability.<\/p>\n

Taking on the Climate Change Challenge<\/h2>\n

On stepping into the new role, Mauderer said that adapting to climate change is one of the \u201cgreat tasks and challenges\u201d that lies ahead of the global community. The NGFS, she said, plans to \u201cintensify its work\u201d to scale adaptation finance going forward.<\/p>\n

Mauderer said she looks forward to working closely with Tshazibana to \u201cpush ahead with our ambitious agenda.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Coalition of the Committed<\/h2>\n

The NGFS develops research on and policy for mobilizing sustainable finance and managing financial risks associated with climate change and nature loss.<\/p>\n

Though their climate scenarios have been criticized by commentators for\u00a0underestimating climate impacts<\/a>, they are\u00a0widely used<\/a>\u00a0and have created a common language for academics, politicians, and financial institutions when discussing the low carbon transition.<\/p>\n

The NGFS Dubai Stocktake showcases its work and how the group has \u201cevolved from a \u2018coalition of the willing\u2019 to a \u2018coalition of the committed.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
